Meditation by the poolside !

This year one of the resolutions I made was to spend more time on me – meditating , working out and doing yoga ! As well my usual me time at the local spas and those when I travel …

Given its mid January already I decided to kickstart my meditative journey right here at the Radisson Blu resort and spa in Alibaug. I’ve been planning on embarking on this journey since a friend of mine has been raving about how it has made him a happier , calmer and better person !

Iphone and iPad have apps that help with meditating and the one I have used is an app called the Insight Timer . (It’s free so you should definitely check it out and give it a shot).

So this morning I woke up and headed to the beautiful poolside along with my headphones and iphone to spend some me-time . It was really refreshing and I promise to do this more often as I found it relaxing , rejuvenating and really easy to do no matter where I am travelling to !

Ditch the workout, join the party !

Last evening I had a really fun workout. I signed up for a Zumba class (1.5 hour master class) at a suburban activity centre in Mumbai. The class was conducted by Kelly Bullard and Sucheta Pal. To those who don’t know what Zumbia is, Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez during the 1990s. The choreography involves dance and aerobic elements incorporating hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance.

The Zumba fever which has affected about 12 million people in over 110,000 locations across more than 125 countries.[5] (source wikipedia)   is now spreading like wild fire in India ( Mumbai). I have friends from across the globe who have been raving about the Zumba way of staying fit, so I was really looking forward to the class.

At first I wasn’t sure what to expect. To be honest I have previously had basic training in Latin American and Ballroom dancing so I thought that it can’t be too different from what I already know. Wrong! Hahaha, I had signed up for a Master class – where most people in the class had been Zumba-ing for a while and some were even instructors. So they already knew what to do and were experts!

I actually have “2 right feet” (if I could say that 😉 that’s how I would describe it) and dancing is my passion so even though the first 30 minutes were a slight struggle picking steps up , once I did I had a blast ! We danced on about 10-15 songs all of them involving choreography inspired by hip -hop, Salsa and Merengue moves. We even danced on “Chammak Challo” and a Punjabi Bhangra version. (Go Punjabiiii! )

Usually men (atleast in Mumbai) don’t sign up for aerobics classes but this is a great option for those who want to “Ditch the work out and join the party”. The guys seemed to enjoy the class as much as us girls did. I had my heart rate monitor on and as per that the class was a 1100 calorie burn class at 75-85% heart rate which is awesome because I actually had a blast while working out. Totally recommend you try this out !

While this was just the start of my Zumba days, I am sure I am going to sign up for many more workshops and try to incorporate this form of calorie burn into my workout atleast once a week.

Sachin is my super hero !

Sachin Tendulkar is my hero ! I like cricket , nothing over the top but I enjoy the game once in a while.

Master Blaster,Kohli,Dravid and Yuvi are my fave ! While I have the biggest crush on Virat and great respect for The Wall it is Sachin who inspires me most.

Today’s century of centuries has once again made me believe that hard work, patience, perseverance and faith can get us to achieve almost anything !

Sachin you are my Super Hero and I hope to meet you in person someday so I may say it to you in person ! ❤

Phat to Fat to Phat again !

Ok so maybe i’m being a Drama Queen (DQ) as Avii says , but the fact is that in the 2.5 months since I ran the Mumbai Marathon ( #scmm) I have gained about 3 kgs ! Yes that’s terrible , given I was almost there ! I had just about touched my dream weight and fat : muscle percentage 😦 😦 .

Blame it on the yummy food , gazillion weddings and well to be honest laziness but this has gotta STOP !   I woke up this morning feeling bloated and fat and the weighing scale only confirmed my worst fears 😦

SOOOO…here’s my plan to shed the extr 3 kgs gained over the next 2 weeks and tone up again just in time for Avii’s rocking Goa wedding 🙂 ( Yes Bridezilla tales and uodates will follow ! but I do miss her at work 😦 😦 )

1. I quit anything sweet for a month – I know it sounds extreme but I just need to stop gorging on those cakes/tarts and pastrys until the beach wedding is over…Given that I have only sweet teeth and thats where all my calories come from I think if i manage doing this , there maybe hope for me after all ! I am allowed 1 cheat day in a week and allowed only frozen yoghurt from my favorite @yogurtbay but thats about it.

2. Increase my water intake – Summer is the best time to try losing weight and Mumbai summer has officially arrived ! You feel thirsty so want to drink lots of H2O and hence fill tummy /detox and feel less hungry. Target is to stick to the 2 lts of water I have been having . 1 lt through the day and 1 as I run. One must avoid water an hour before sleep time as you may feel bloaty on waking up. 3. Start eating Oats – yes you read it right Oats. It’s a great way to add fibre , feel less hungry and stay healthy. Oats can be used with milk or as a savoury treat ( oats upma).

4. RUN ! my dear running shoes have been ignored the past month or so – I did want to rest my knee( https://tiarainwonderland.wordpress.com/2012/01/28/the-2-5-hours-that-changed-the-way-i-view-life/) and spend more time with Annie walking her in my Reetones (which are fantastic btw and really effective) , yet there is no substitue for running ! I plan to follow this routine :-

(I want to target breaking  2:15 in the 2013 Half Marathon so it’s important i keep training all year round).

5. Try the Zumba – yes this is my new thing to try for 2012 and I am looking forward to it – it’s supposed to be very good for toning up and enjoying yourself while doing so ! ( more details to follow when I start this).

I am hoping this effort will be enough to help me shed 3-4 kgs of Fat and tone up by the 10th of April 🙂
